In previous story, we talked about Ginsenoside, a core component in ginseng. It has 40 different sub-components, and three of them (Rg1, Rg3, Rb1) are clinically proven for their benefits. In today’s story, let’s deep dive into the benefits of each sub-components.
Rg1 & Rb1: Anti-fatigue Effect
According to the study done by Feng Yi-Chong and her research team,Ginsenoside Rg1 and Rb1 resist exercise-induced central fatigue through the detection of contents of central neurotransmitter.
In layman’s term, they are known to facilitate body’s metabolism and increases ATP level (Adenosine triphosphate, a main energy source of our body) to naturally recover from fatigue and recharge body’s energy.
Rg3: Immunity Booster
According to the article “Molecular Signaling of Ginsenosides Rb1, Rg1, and Rg3 and their mode of actions”, it defines Rg 3 as following:
Ginsenoside Rg3 is a steroidal saponin that is highly enriched in Korean Red Ginseng … it exhibits higher antioxidant activity and more potent immune response.
Its effect on immunity enhancement makes it a notable component to be studied for a cancer treatment as well. According to the article “Anticancer effects of ginsenoside Rg3 (Review)” mentions Rg3 plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of cancer.
Stress Alleviation Effect of Korean Red Ginseng
According to the study “Effect of Korean red ginseng in individuals exposed to high stress levels,” it suggests that Korean red ginseng might help to stabilize the sympathetic nervous system and improve cognition in individuals with high stress.
In the study, 63 subjects were divided into two groups (Korean Red Ginseng (n-32) and Placebo (n=31)) where Korean Red Ginseng group took 2g of Korean Red Ginseng (6 year grown) daily for 6 weeks. As a result, the treatment group (Korean Red Ginseng) showed a significant increase in triglyceride levels (still within the normal range) and a trend toward decreased levels of epinephrine. So, what does this result mean?
The results provide neurobiological evidence supporting an adaptogenic effect of Korean red ginseng, that it might stabilize the central nervous system and autonomic nervous system.
We’ve looked into various research & studies about ginseng’s benefits. Those studies consistently suggest that ginseng (or specifically, Ginsenoside Rg1, Rb1, and Rg3) has benefits of anti-fatigue, immunity boost, and stress alleviation.
